Kohl Tamarua- Horton is a national representative Cook Island canoe athlete. Kohl lives and trains in Rarotonga for K1, K2 kayak and surf ski. Kohl started in canoe sprints in 2019 in the lagoon of Rarotonga. He displays a natural aptitude in the water improving very quickly under the guidance of coaches Stephen Brown and Roly Rolleston. He is self-motivated with a strong training ethic and a competitive nature. In 2020 Kohl took National Championship titles in canoe sprints, surfski and athletics, and in April 2021 he won the Cook Islands Junior Sportsman of the Year. In his short time in canoe sprint he has beaten the best from his age group within the region, including athletes from power house nations Australia & New Zealand. Kohl’s performance at 2020 Oceania Canoe Sprint Championships secured a Tokyo Olympics Men’s Quota for the 1000m event. Kohl starts his Olympian career at Tokyo Olympics and has his eyes firmly set on Paris 2024.
