Five nations will be represented in the finals of the men’s open canoe surface competition after another day of action at the ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships in Sort, Spain, on Tuesday.
Spain, Germany, France, Australia and the United States will all be represented in the five-man decider, with Spain’s Adria Bosch Roca posting the two highest scores of the semi-final, his 173.33 on his second run just eclipsing the 165 he recorded on his opening effort.
Germany’s Philip Josef was next best, with 110, while France’s Jean-Yves Moustrou recorded 100. Australia’s Jez Jezz (73.33) and USA’s Jordan Poffenberger (56.67) will join them in the final.
The semi-finals of the men’s canoe decked surface have also been decided, and will include outstanding French junior, Tom Dolle, and American Dane Jackson. Jackson’s teammate, Jordan Poffenberger, was the top qualifier with 1486.67, just shading France’s Sebastien Devred on 1405.
Reigning junior world champion, Ottilie Robinson-Shaw, was the top qualifier in the women’s junior kayak surface, posting 916.67. Second into the semi-finals was American Katie Fankhouser on 813.34, with teammate Olivia McGinnis on 746.67.
A third American, Abby Holcombe, rounded out the top four with 476.67. Three Germans and three Spanish paddlers make up the remaining qualifiers for the semi-finals.
The 2019 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships continue in Sort on Wednesday.
