An eventful DW2016 saw records broken, crews endure incredible conditions and the reluctant decision to stop the race after Day 3 due to severe weather and safety concerns.

On the water, Senior Doubles was won by Peter Maycock and Tristram Turner in a time of 17 hours, 10 minutes and 25 seconds. Second place went to the female crew of Kat Burbeck and Alex Lane in a record Ladies K2 time of 17:59:45. Third place was the USA crew of Mike and Rebecca Davis from Michigan with a record Canadian time of 18:23:48.

Day 4 of the stages races was cancelled due to safety concerns. Wind gusts up to 70mph were recorded in central London at the time the race would have been taking place. At the end of Day 3, the Junior Doubles lead was held by Dougal Glaisher and Francis Huntingford of Blundell’s School in a time of 15:03:21, just 28 seconds ahead of Daniel Palmer and Bronte Holden from Fowey River CC.

Veteran Junior Doubles was led by Kim Hollman and William Playle from Barking & Dagenham CC with a time of 16:28:42. Keith Moule from Chelmsford CC won the Senior Singles in 13:30:33. (Results are provisional at this stage – see www.dwrace.org.uk for full details).

Retirement rates in Senior Doubles was 26%, Senior Singles 12%, with no retirements in Junior or Veteran-Junior Doubles.
