Jessica Fox has bounced back from a disappointing result in the K1 on Saturday to lead the Australian women to a C1 trifecta at the Australian Open final in Penrith today.
 
Fox recorded a time of 109.27 to finish 1.93 seconds ahead of Rosalyn Lawrence. Alison Borrows completed the local trifecta in 116.03.
 
Fox was pleased with the way she paddled today with her C1 time in the final faster than her K1 run on Saturday.
 
“I actually beat my time from yesterday so I was pretty happy with that final run to take the win,” Fox said.
 
“Yesterday didn’t go to plan as I didn’t make the final and I was really looking to do that so today I wanted to paddle freely and put down runs that I was capable of.”
 
Since winning her first C1 World Championship in 2013 the margins have become a lot tighter and today Fox had to produce a fast run to beat the time set by Lawrence.
 
“The racing is much more competitive now and Ros has always been one of the best in the C1 event and now there are a few young girls coming through as well and some internationals as well so I knew I had to pull out my best paddling and to take that win,” Fox said.
 
The reigning world champion now turns her attention to the K1 and preparing for the final selection event, the Oceania Championships, in Penrith from the 19 to 21 February.
