The Marine Stadium in Long Beach has been confirmed as the Canoe Sprint venue for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The announcement was part of LA28’s second wave of venue confirmations for the Games.

Lake Perris State Recreation Area in Riverside County was the initial venue proposed in the Olympic bid.

However, LA28 organisers requested a switch in 2019 to eliminate the need for a separate satellite Athletes’ Village in Riverside County.

The Long Beach Marine Stadium hosted rowing events at the 1932 Olympic Games and will do so again in 2028.

The venue fits well into the Olympic Agenda 2020+5, which emphasises sustainability, legacy and the use of existing high-quality venues, wherever possible.

ICF President Thomas Konietzko expressed his excitement for the venue, saying:

“Long Beach Marine Stadium is an historic Olympic site and sits at the heart of Los Angeles County.

“We are excited to take Canoe Sprint to the venue for 2028.

Mr Konietzko added: “ICF are already working closely with LA28 and the Olympic Games stakeholders to ensure a spectacular staging of our sprint events in the Olympic Games 2028.

It promises to be quite the spectacle."

Last month, it was confirmed that Oklahoma City will host the Canoe Slalom events at LA28.
