Organisers have hailed the success of the inaugural IOC Esports week, with the International Canoe Federation booth proving particularly popular among the visitors.

More than 1200 fans tested themselves on the ICF Kayak VR experience, including the deputy Prime Minister of Singapore. The ICF booth was one of the most popular attractions in the Free to Play Zone.

The Kayak VR by Better Than Life experience gave participants the opportunity to paddle virtually in some of the most beautiful locations on the planet. Not only does it provide beautiful scenery in a gamified version, but it also provides a workout on an erg machine for those taking part.

Participants ranged in age from four to senior citizens, and also included athletes from different sports who were attending the Esports week.

“Our product really showed how fun and accessible paddling can be,” ICF Secretary General, Richard Pettit, said.

“A lot of participants wanted to know where they could paddle in real life, and how to purchase the product to play at home. The feedback we received was that by combining the VR game with a kayak erg, we could provide a full immersive experience for participants.

“The success of this week confirms we have a great opportunity to embrace and lead the future of Esports. People loved the opportunity Kayak VR by Better Than Life provided, and we are sure this will lead to more people wanting to experience paddling in outdoor environments.”

The International Canoe Federation gave special thanks to the Singapore Canoe Federation for the outstanding work it did to ensure this event was a success.
