Reigning ICF stand up paddling world champion Titouan Puyo showed he is the man to beat this season with a clean sweep of the titles on offer at an ICF SUP World Cup in Thun, Switzerland, on the weekend.

The 31-year-old from New Caledonia won the distance, tech and sprint titles in an impressive performance over the weekend. France’s Amandine Chazot was the most impressive in the women’s competition, winning the sprint and the tech titles, and finishing second behind Spain’s Esperanza Barreras Sanjurjo in the distance race.

Puyo and Chazot both earned all-expenses paid trips to Poland for this year’s ICF SUP World Championships in September.

In the men’s competition, Australia’s Ty Judson took out bronze medals in the men’s distance and tech races, Hungary’s Bruno Hasulyo won silver in the distance race, while Frenchman Ludovic Teulade was second in the tech race and third in the sprint.

Organisers were thrilled with the success of the event, which attracted international athletes in all categories. Among the competitors were a busload of 20 junior paddlers who spent 20 hours on the road to get to Thun.

The next stop on the ICF SUP world cup tour will be in Budapest, Hungary, from June 17-19. The event will be run by the Hungarian Canoe Federation, organisers of last year’s successful ICF World Championships on Lake Balaton.

Registration for the event, which will be broadcast live throughout Hungary, is now open. Paddlers of all levels are invited to take part. Rentals and board transport for the event will be provided.
