Double individual gold for Martina Satkova and five more gold medals for the Czech Republic was the story of the second day of the ICF junior and U23 wildwater canoe world championships in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzogovina, on Friday.
Italy also picked up five gold medals and Slovenia three on a day when sprint and team finals were contested. Defending Slovenian senior world champion Anze Urankar won the men’s U23 kayak sprint final, while Italy’s Cecilia Panato picked up the junior canoe gold.
Satkova won both the women’s U23 kayak and canoe gold medals, teammate Tereza Kneblova won the women’s junior kayak, Filip Janu the men’s junior canoe, Sveda and Smilek the men’s junior C2, and the Czechs picked up the team gold medals in both the women’s and men’s U23 team events.
Italy picked up a team gold medal in the men’s U23 canoe and the men’s junior kayak team events, Panato and Rosa won the women’s U23 C2, and Mattia Quintarelli the men’s U23 canoe.
Other gold medals for Slovenia came courtesy of Vid Ostrbenk in the men’s junior kayak and the men’s U23 kayak team.
France and Germany also enjoyed medal success on Friday. Germany won team events in the women’s U23 and the women’s junior kayak, while Sauteur and Ydoux won the men’s U23 C2 and the junior canoe team won gold for France.
