The International Canoe Federation can today announce the completion of the Canoe Sprint quota allocation process for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
A total of 239 paddlers including 120 women and 119 men from all five continents will compete for Canoe Sprint success in Paris.
The overall number comprises of 136 paddlers from Europe, 34 from Pan America, 29 from Asia, 24 from Oceania, 13 from Africa and three from the International Olympic Committee’s Refufee Olympic Team.
A total of 47 National Olympic Committees will be represented in the Canoe Sprint competition.
There will be an equal number of men’s and women’s events with paddlers poised to compete in the men’s kayak four 500m, men’s kayak double 500m, men’s kayak single 1000m, women’s kayak four 500m, women’s kayak double 500m, women’s kayak single 500m, men’s canoe double 500m, men’s canoe single 1000m, women’s canoe double 500m and women’s canoe single 200m.
The biggest team will come from Germany having secured 18 quota spots.
Hungary and Spain have the joint second largest allocation with 16, while the People’s Republic of China has 15.
Other nations with double figures in quota places are Canada with 13, Poland with 12, Australia with 11 and New Zealand with 10.
Serbia and Ukraine have achieved eight quotas each, Denmark and hosts France have both obtained seven and Brazil, Czechia and Kazakhstan all have six each.
Lithuania has five slots, while Norway has four spots along with Portugal, South Africa and Sweden.
Three places have each been secured by Belgium, Chile, Cuba, Italy, Moldova, Romania, United States and Uzbekistan.
Angola, Argentina, Iran, Mexico, The Netherlands, Nigeria and Samoa all have two places each, while Bulgaria, Colombia, Croatia, Egypt, Guam, Morocco, Senegal, Singapore, Sao Tome and Principe, Chinese Taipei, Tunisia, Uruguay and Vietnam have also sealed a place at Paris 2024.
The final spots were awarded at the European Olympic qualifier staged in Szeged, Hungary in May where Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) also secured places.
There will be five AIN paddlers in the Canoe Sprint competition in Paris.
Last year’s ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany doubled up as a qualifier for Paris 2024, while places were also earned at qualification events in Africa, Asia, Oceania and Pan America.
Additional spots were awarded to Fernando Dayan Jorge Enriquez, Saman Soltani and Saeid Fazloula after they were selected in the IOC’s Refugee Olympic Team in May.

“We have witnessed great qualification events which have given us a taste of what is to come in Paris as paddlers go for Olympic glory.
“The Olympic course looks fantastic and I’m excited to see the fans fill the large grandstand which will create a really special atmosphere for everyone involved.”
Vaires-sur-Marne will be the stage of the Canoe Sprint competition at Paris 2024, with races running from August 6 to 10.
